Nuclear
Reactor Disaster Causes U.S. Congress to Shut Down U.S.
Reactors
[ send
me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses a fictitious scenario in which
a nuclear reactor disaster takes place at a French breeder
reactor plant. Congress responds by shutting down U.S. light
water reactors. This report discusses the reaction of a
state legislator whose state (Wisconsin) relies on light
water reactors for 20 percent of its energy. The legislator
will chair a planning committee to formulate the necessary
actions, public information, and response to Washington.

A
Place for Soil Geomorphic in Archaeological Research
[ send
me this paper ]
A 9 page paper discussing the utility of a soil geomorphic
perspective in archaeological and paleoenvironmental
research, and how records generated by studies employing
this approach compare to records of environmental change
documented through palynology, paleoentomology or diatom
paleoecology. Geoarchaeology is growing in popularity among
those willing to look outside the boundaries of standard
methods in order to gain the most information available from
a site, both in volume and reliability. As with nearly every
discipline, there are those who claim the standard methods
alone work just fine and that there is no need to add to or
detract from them after so many years, but there are others
who will flatly state that full analysis of some sites
cannot be accomplished with employing aspects of each point
of view. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Cadmium
In The Environment
[ send
me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing the effects of environmental
cadmium. Cadmium is a naturally occurring element, a heavy
metal found in conjunction with iron, zinc and copper ores.
Once used heavily in electronics manufacturing and believed
not to affect the water supply, research has discovered that
cadmium does indeed leach through the soil, affecting both
ground and surface water. It can be taken up by plants
growing in contaminated soil and then ingested by humans.
Cadmium is cumulative in its effects, and the dangers of
long-term, low-level exposure include cancer, kidney disease
and reproductive problems, and may also contribute to other
physical conditions. Bibliography lists 32 sources.

GPS
And Agriculture
[ send
me this paper ]
The age of computers has brought with it many innovations.
One area that has been greatly impacted by the rise in
technological ability has been agriculture. The 'simple
life' of the farm has been irrevocably changed by the advent
of computer based renovations. 'Precision agriculture' is
the term coined to represent the new era in farming
techniques. Through the use of the global positioning
system, GPS, computer age farmers are able to pinpoint the
position of equipment and to analyze the soil content and
product potential. This 5 page paper examines the benefit of
GPS to the farming community. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
